5 out of 5 stars Very pleased with this bed   April 17, 2006

I bought one of these beds for my 12-year-old, 100-lb baby boy (ok, I guess most people would call him a "dog"), when his arthritis started making it difficult for him to get up and down off the couches and the "people beds."

So far, so good. My dog uses the bed every night, he seems to like it, and the bed makes it easier for him to get up and down, while providing him with a great deal of cushion between him and the floor.

After three months of use, I can see no appreciable wear and tear to the bed: the foam still bounces back into shape, and the cover is still in nice condition.

It keeps my dog comfortable, and makes his life easier. I couldn't ask for anything more.

EDIT: After about six months, the foam did start to break down. So, though it lasted quite a bit longer than similar beds, it did not rebound indefinitely. The last bed we bought for Zeus was the Pet Goods 157 PetCare SSS OrthoCare 35-by-45-by-8-Inch Coil Spring Bed, also sold on Amazon. The PetCare bed is, hands down, the best dog bed I've ever bought. For a light use or travel bed, I'd recommend this foam bed, but for heavy dogs and/or heavy home use, I'd certainly buy the PetCare bed.

5 out of 5 stars Daisy's dog bed   March 20, 2006

My dog, Daisy, is a 115 lb lab/shepherd and she went straight to this bed when we put it on the floor and has slept nowhere else since we got the bed. I think it is safe to say that she loves the bed.

3 out of 5 stars 12 year old feels good in the morning   March 16, 2006

My 12 year old arthritic black lab, Keela, feels good in the morning after she's slept on this bed. It's a good height off the floor so she easily maneuvers onto and off of it. The cover comes off and is machine washable, which is essential! Unfortunately, the foam insert seems to be sagging already in the middle, so I'm concerned about how well it will hold up in the long run. I'm hopeful it will last for my border collie and golden retriever to inherit, but am growing doubtful of that. I will say that it seems to be making my sweet old girl much more comfortable in her old age, and that's the most important thing!

1 out of 5 stars Would NOT recommend   November 19, 2005

I bought this bed recently for a bullmastiff who is 160+ lbs. Although used by a big dog, the foam in the bed is not good quality. Within 4 days of my dog laying on the bed, the middle was squished down and would not bounce back up. This bed is supposed to be a large, durable bed made for giant breed dogs and yet it has not lived up to that. IN ADDITION, the fur on the top portion of the cover sheds...again this began to occur as soon as I brought the bed home and with washings (on cold as the directions say) the fur portion is thinning to where you can almost see through it when held up to light. So all in all I paid $70 for a thin piece of fabric that sheds fuzz all over my house!! I would not tell anyone to buy this bed!

3 out of 5 stars Nice on the Outside   November 16, 2005

I have one of these beds that I bought in July. It is used sometimes by a 45 lb dog and sometimes by a 30 lb dog. There is now a concave area in the bed where the dogs lie. The foam has compressed and never fully restored. Although the bed is 6 inches thick, the area where they sleep is hardly over an inch thick now. The cover is very nice and has held up to washings and dog wrestling, but the foam is not good. It appears to be two 3 inch pieces of eggcrate-type foam glued together. Maybe it was a bad batch of foam.
