Very useful for fresh hatch shrimp October 26, 2008 James G. Driscoll (Santa Clara, CA United States) I like this so much I've bought an extra one. Useful for hatching baby shrimp and feeding them to your fish - total lifecycle is about 3 days, after which you dump it out, rinse it, and start over. The baby shrimp swim up into the clear container in top, which contains only fresh water. You can buy refills of the mix to hatch shrimp, which is simple, or if you're cheap, use 3 teaspoons of aquarium salt with 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of eggs, which you can buy separately. Very nice setup. No heat, airpump or light required - but you only get baby shrimp. If you want full grown shrimp, you'll need a different setup.
