Great gate but it was easier to install this thing Backwards October 31, 2008 Mark G. Ledbetter (Memphrica) No.... not that kind of backwards.... I mean mix the directions around. Instead of connecting the two pieces of the gate together leave them separate until the very end. Make sure and MEASURE THE OPENING FIRST to make sure the final gate will fit. Then use the templates, install the hardware into the walls (dont forget to put the locks in on the unlatching side so the gate swings the correct way), put the plastic corner pieces on the gate so you can attach it to the hardware(dont tighten the slides all the way). Now all you have left are the 2 upper and 2 bottom parts that lock the two gate pieces together. You didnt tighten the gate slides yet did you... great... then swing both sides of the gate to the closed position and adjust the slides until the gate matches up. Install the upper and lower plastic pieces that lock the gate together. Once they are tight, tighten up the sliding hardware, and your ready to go.
Just take your time installing October 15, 2008 M. Barnum (Madison, WI USA) I was a little apprehensive when I saw all the reviews about how hard this gate was to install, but the price was right and I have a tricky angle I needed a gate for. Well, I have to say while the instructions for this gate aren't the best I've ever seen, they certainly aren't the worst. The biggest issue is there are a lot of little parts that have to be positioned just right. If you go slowly, step-by-step, it isn't very hard. It took me about 45 minutes to an hour to install, and after I was done I kept looking at the instructions and inside the box to make sure I didn't miss anything. "It couldn't have been this easy," I thought. Someone else said you need a time where you don't have interruptions--this is key. The finished product is sturdy and fits my odd space beautifully. Oh...and make sure before you actually mount it you test how the gate will swing. Because I have a weird angle, the gate would swing well when the hinge was mounted on one side, but not the other. This was good to figure out before I started drilling holes.
Great gate for stairs AND angled wall. September 15, 2008 S. Tapp (Minneapolis, MN United States) We needed a gate that would mount to a railing and to an angled wall. This gate does both and is nice and sturdy and easy to use. It took quite a while and two people to install, but once done is great. Just what I expected when I ordered it.
Works great, but installation instructions horibble August 20, 2008 Happy Daddy (San Diego, CA) The gate works very well. We were really stuck with a problem since our kitchen and living room are not separated by an even wall. There are shelves in the way of a regular gate. This angle-mount was the perfect solution. The latch is very sturdy too. As you can see from other reviews, the instruction manual is not thorough at all. I read in the reviews that it would be a good idea to lay out the parts as they are shown on the parts list page. This was a good tip. I would reserve 2 hours to set up the gate. Even after all the parts are identified, there is some guesswork involved in putting it together. If the manual was better illustrated, the gate should not take more than 30 minutes to set up. I would give it 5 stars but the installation hassle lost a star!
does the trick August 10, 2008 Happy Buyer (MN) Needed a gate that would work for the top of our stairs where the railings dont quite line up. This gate works perfectly. The only reason i didnt give it 5 starts is because the instructions. Absolutely horrible. still managed to put it together in less than an hour and I consider myself somewhat handy and good with instructions.
