| Synopsis:
We also teach our dogs to perform commands like getting a beverage from the refrigerator, turning light switches on and off, getting the newspaper, opening doors and gates on command, and the list goes on and on. But obedience still wouldn't be complete without the discipline, attention, control, dependability and communication we instill along with these commands. Dogs are working animals and enjoy work as long as it is enforced in a positive way. It is not enough for a dog to just know a few commands. You want to make obedience a way of life for your dog. Work should take up most of a dog's day. We have to keep their minds busy. This should include daily rules and guidelines. It's not so much about what your dog knows but how you use it. Keep in mind that training the owner is the most important part of our programs. What happens at home on a daily basis greatly out-weighs everything, so it is very important to turn the owner into an expert in their own dog and situation. |
