Television for cats may sound like the silliest idea ever, but when you turn on Feline Frolics your cat will stare with rapt predatory attention, staring far more alertly than your average couch potato. This odd little video features birds, fish, mice, rabbits, bumblebees, a plastic ball on a string, other cats, and a small blue square that bounces around the edges of the screen like a refugee from Pong, accompanied by a soundtrack of largely disconnected natural sounds--quacking, trilling, whining, gulping, panting, purring, even a lion roaring (there's also an alternative musical soundtrack, but this made no impression whatsoever on my cat; she didn't look at the screen until chirping caught her ear). Some cats my find this endlessly engaging, but with mine, the fascination only lasted for 10 to 12 minutes, after which she became bored (possibly by the lack of smell or other sensory stimuli) and sauntered off. My cat occasionally glanced at a bird fluttering across the screen after that but was far more interested with the world outside the living room window. --Bret Fetzer

I bought this dvd about three years ago for my cats. They loved it so much I got in the habit of putting it on before I go to bed. The dvd "loops" so it runs all night. I didn't like either sound track (the "natural" noises most of which are just weird and scary to my cats, like lions roaring or dogs barking vice the "music") so I just turn the sound all the way down. My cats will sit up on the TV table or on top of the TV and wait for their favorite parts of this video so they can swat at the screen. I have literally played this film over and over again every night for nearly three solid years and it has not worn out yet. I was a little worried that my cats would scratch my TV screen (an old-fashioned 2000 model with a built-in VHS!! from Costco) but there is not one scratch on my TV screen, even though they consistently paw at it with sharp claws. So, yesterday, I accidentally mailed our Feline Frolics copy to Netflix instead of the DVD they sent me. And I can't get it back since Netflix actually rents out Feline Frolics. So I'm in here to buy another FF dvd. We'll have a few boring nights until our shipment arrives. Buy your cat(s) this dvd. It keeps them busy and active. Make sure you have an unscratchable TV screen, however.

I got them the dvds because I noticed them watching 'regular' television. And I thought why not get them something for cats, well I'm glad I did, they all love the dvds.

My cat watched this video and was fascinated for the first 15 minutes. Then she was done with it. I put the video on again for her the next day and she wasn't interested in it. She did look up at the TV when whale sounds came on and she seemed to like the water noises.
The DVD has an option to play the video with nature sounds and with music. The music is new age, calming music, and one of the songs is an "asian" inspired song. The nature sounds don't match the video, but who cares? If your cat likes it, then that is all that matters. The video is 60 minutes, but runs continuously. Which is great if you want to leave it on while you are not home.
If my cat watched this DVD the whole way through or was interested after the first try I would give it five stars.

This DVD was a total waste of my money. My cats weren't the least bit interested and the sounds didn't always match the picture on the screen which is confusing to them...they can see a bird, but it's jingling like a cat toy....what's up with that? Fish that sound like crows?? Some of the videotaping was also very shoddy. The only reason it got any stars at all was because of the pretty cats that were used in making this and they do tug at your heartstrings.

My cat was very interested in this DVD. She was fascinated, watching the birds hop around the screen and even tried to grab one bird on the screen! My only complaint was that it might have been nice to match the sounds with the scenes on this DVD (whoever created it has bird sounds when there are fish on the screen, fish sounds when there are birds, etc.) But my cat didn't seem to care. If you want some fun entertainment for your cat, and for you, I recommend this DVD. Of course, it depends on the cat. I sent this as a gift to my sister as well and her cat wasn't very excited about it. My cat and I found it very entertaining (and parts of it were soothing to watch too).
