Each episode focuses on one of up to 150 canine breeds. In each episode we will select one or two dogs that serve as our main guides through the colorful world of purebreds. Through interviews with owners, trainers, judges, breeders and veterinarians, we will explore the development of a "top dog". In this episode of Breed All About It, we learn about the joys of owning the Apollo of Dogs, the Great Dane. The size, regal appearance, and trainability of the Great Dane has made them a popular choice for the media world. Terri Dilliston makes her living training Great Danes for television shows and movies. Her Dane, Eakin, was a regular on "Living Single" with Queen Latifah. Terri shares some points on training, and tricks of the trade. Eakin's not the only famous Dane, Brad Anderson's cartoon Dane "Marmaduke" has quite the following. Brad tells us a little about how Marmaduke came to be, and how his lovable characteristics mirror the personality of the sweet-natured Great Dane. Next we meet Freeway. He may not be famous, but his owner is - Greg Louganis. Greg shares with us the heartbreaking side of Dane ownership. Though they may be statuesque, they are far from a robust breed. Danes are known to have short lifespans, and as a breed, they have numerous health problems. Greg tells us the story of Freeway's fight with "wobblers" disease, which can result in gradual paralysis of the rear end of the dog.
