2 out of 5 stars audio ok, visually no effect   August 12, 2008
Bought this items based on good reviews here.
My mini schnauzer won't pay any attention to visual presentation (on my 40" HDTV, so it's not bc of poor quality video), but audio keeps his ears flopping once in a while. So I just copied the audio files onto a cd and had it looping on my stereo for 8 hrs.

Visual - no effect
Audio - mediocre

2 out of 5 stars NOT FOR ALL DOGS   April 21, 2008

I bought this DVD to help when I am dogsitting for my sister's two Italian grayhounds, but it certainly didn't attract--much less hold--their attention. It's an oddly edited mish-mash. First off, the various segments are connected with New-Age-style piano music. Is there any evidence anywhere that dogs especially enjoy New Age piano music? There are, at several totally arbitrary points, brief voice-overs of pet owners reciting short testimonials to their own pets. Perhaps a voice track saying "good dog!" or some such thing would register with a pet, but not the Hallmark sentiments included on this disc. The editing is far too jumpy for dogs--a continuous shot from a single camera might have worked, but animals don't understand changing camera angles and jump cuts, so as the camera leaps about during individual segments, it must be totally disorienting to them. My own experience with this, as well as other DVDs for dogs, is that they tend to become much more engaged when there are shots of other dogs, along with dog noises, and this DVD has only minimal dog footage. How can a dog possibly identify with shots of, say, flamingos if they have never seen one in real life? All in all it's an interesting and potentially effective concept, but the execution is only so-so at best.

Beautiful music and scenery. Oscar (my dog :-) ) gets excited everytime I reach for the remote now. Going to get him the Music Dogs Love: While You Are Gone next.

2 out of 5 stars DVD for Dogs not so entertaining   March 26, 2008

I bought this for my dog whom we have decided has A.D.D. (haha) Anyway, she does have a short attention span, and the scenes in this movie are a bit too long to hold her attention. They will interest her for about 10 seconds, maybe a little longer, but as each scene and sound stays there for a good 5-10 minutes, I ended up watching more than she did. Also, there weren't a lot of barking dogs (just the same one occasionally throughout the movie) and there weren't any scenes of dogs playing together or anything. I think that these would have held her attention far longer than the ducks, chickens, fish, etc..
The movie is set up nicely, but for a dog with virtually no attention span, it didn't work out well.

5 out of 5 stars Dog Lover and sitter   March 26, 2008

Really enjoyed the Music Dogs Love: While You Are Gone CD (go there for my review) so I ordered the DVD so I could change things up. My only complaint is my dogs leave nose prints on the screen :-). In all seriousness I was amazed in their response. The younger dogs seem to enjoy it the most. I usually put it on when I take my neighbors dogs for a walk (I dogsit them on the weekends) and when I get back my dogs are still sitting there staring at my TV. Its pretty funny!
