Product Description Bill Spicer shares how he trained his Basenji friend, a breed notorious for being difficult to train. When Bill brought his Basenji home, he knew he had a spirited puppy that needed some serious training. Basenjis are very intelligent, but also very independent. Unless they see a benefit, they have little interest in obeying their human master. Bill describes the Basenji breed and demonstrates how he successfully trained his cat-like friend. Whether you are planning to get a Basenji or already have one, you will find the information in this entertaining video helpful and refreshing. Chapter 1: The Basenji Breed - Companion to the pharaohs, the Basenji is one of the oldest breeds. Bill describes the unique characteristics of this curly-tailed sighthound from Africa. Chapter 2: Training My Untrainable Dog - Basenjis do only what they think is in their best interest. Despite Lucy's independence, Bill taught her to sit, stay, come, lay down, roll over and much more. He describes his training techniques and demonstrates the results. Chapter 3: Housebreaking - Basenjis are barkless dogs, so how do you know when they have to go outside? Bill worked out a clever communications system with Lucy that is simple and very affective. Chapter 4: Health & Nutrition - There are many products on the market designed to maintain the health and happiness of a dog. Bill discusses their benefits and offers a variety of useful tips. Chapter 5: Walking & Confinement - Controlling a dog inside and outside the home is key. Bill shares his solutions and demonstrates some helpful products. Chapter 6: Bonding - We all seek love, respect and trust. In fact, dogs and humans have more in common than you may think. Bill describes how Lucy and he became such a close team. --- Remember, dogs are people too.

Good introduction but fairly simple November 7, 2008 Gregg L. Biggs (San Francisco CA) I have been fostering a basenji and found this to be a good introduction for someone who is considering the breed. It gives an overview of some of the quirks and challenges with a basenji but does not go very deep. Basenjis are a delightful breed but have challenges, and anyone wanting to do in depth training won't gain that here. I also felt it should have gotten into a little detail about health issues unique to basenjis such as hyperthyroid and fanconi syndrome. Lucy, the basenji featured, is an adorable dog, and it's worth it just to watch her.
