Product Description
Retriever Puppy Training, The Right Start for Hunting presents a program of basic training for turning young retrievers into efficient and happy workers. Although many retriever owners are very competent trainers, they lack a plan of continuity so important for developing a puppy's confidence. This book provides a step-by-step teaching schedule that correlates to a dog's mental and physical development. the reader will learn socialization and obedience training techniques, retrieving commands, correct field training and yardwork practice, and what equipment to use - all an owner needs to know to produce a cooperative house pet and a reliable hunting companion.
Retriever Puppy Training includes a complete glossary of terms, helpful pictures and diagrams, and a Three Phases of Training outline. It's a handy reference for learning the steps to successful retriever training.
Many puppy owners have the desire and the ability to do a good job of training their hunting dog, but they lack a step-by-step program to use as a guide. When your pup has completed this program he will have the basic disciplines that are necessary for advanced training such as blind retrieves. He'll be ready to go when you put your hand over his head and say back. You will have worked out all the yes, bu, maybe and I don't want to excuses that all retrievers try to use.
This book is directed to owners of puppies in their first year, but the program is equally effective with young retrievers that start this program beyond that age. It gives your retriever the necessary disciplines and skills he will need if he is to become your reliable hunting companion.
